About Us

Mayor David N. Cicilline created the Mayor's Substance Abuse Prevention Council (MSAPC) on July 17, 2003.  In creating the MSAPC, the Mayor focused the work of the Council to a prevention focused mission charged with assessing the City's substance abuse prevention needs and implementing program and policy recommendations.

•Media campaign aimed at adults to prevent
alcohol from being provided to minors
• Responsible beverage server training for
businesses
• Annual underage drinking-prevention kick off event
aimed at Providence businesses
• School curriculum aimed at preventing
substance use, delinquency and violence.
• Mini grants for youth designed to
enhance leadership skills and prevention knowledge
• Summer programming in partnership with
PASA for summer jobs 39 Providence youth
• Increased enforcement efforts by Providence
Police to prevent underage drinking and
tobacco sales to minors
